Writer David S. Goyer recently told MTV’s Splash Page that the Ghost Rider 2 movie from Columbia Pictures isn’t going to be a reboot. Based on an old script of his that is being retooled to fit a PG-13 rating and key points from the first movie; Goyer says this movie takes place eight years later and takes Johnny Blaze to a much darker place. Goyer said, “It’s not exactly a reboot, I hate to say it’s more realistic, because he’s got a flaming skull for a head, but it’s a bit more stripped down and darker. It’s definitely changing tone. What Casino Royale was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to Ghost Rider.” Seems that Disney’s buy of Marvel has made the Hollywood suits sit up and take notice of what we want to see. Goyer looks to be taking a page from The Incredible Hulk and just picking up some time later and maybe giving us an abbreviated origin during the opening credits. I believe that Goyer will be the shot in the arm this franchise needs. I still think it should be rated R, but what made the first movie suck was the script. With movies like Blade and Blade 2 under his belt, Goyer knows Marvel and knows supernatural darkness…

The good – The David S. Goyer script
The bad – Columbia making him take it from rated R to PG-13
The ugly – Ghost Rider 1′s effects
The PG-13 rating is really going to limit the storytelling, but it will bring in many more kids.
___GOOD NEWS. No reboot on this and a few others is a great decision. Better story, SO please don’t make it feel hokey to me. Don’t make a feel good movie, just make it feel real. Suggestions some of us geeks would like to passon. THINK HORROR, SADISTIC, VIOLENCE….with alot of action and story. Yes I know that is what you are saying your creating so if you stick with that and work on the realistic horror then you have the makings of a SMASH HIT.
