Other than his line of HALO toys, lawsuits & sports toys – we haven’t seen or heard much of Todd McFarlane lately. But, just in the past few months he’s replaced Al Simmons as Spawn, created Haunt with Robert Kirkman, Greg Capullo and Tyler Kirkham and now he has told MTV’s Splash Page that he has an all new Spawn animated project coming down the pipe. McFarlane went on to say that he already has 85 minutes of script and voice recording and character designs done. After January 2, 2010, he plans to start shopping this project around Hollywood either as an animated feature or a pilot to an ongoing series. McFarlane is also set in wanting to keep the series R-rated much like the HBO Spawn animated series was back in the late ’90′s. He also has plans for a new live-action Spawn movie some time after the animated project gets the greenlight. I read the Spawn series up until issue #30 and just lost interest. The dialogue was bland and it was nortoriously late. When the series first started, I loved the fact that Spawn had a “power meter” that tracked the use of his powers. He could use a power only once and once the meter reached zero, it was back to Hell. I thought it was a very cool concept for a “mystic” character that could otherwise become too powerful. Then all of a sudden, he was doing whatever he wanted with no consequences. And then the live-action movie came out and I was so disgusted that I had no desire to every see another Spawn comic again. What do you think? Has Spawn ran its course or is it ready for a resurgence in popularity?
