Well, thankfully the proposed Venom solo movie being written and possibly directed by Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) will be starting from scratch with no holdovers from Spider-Man 3. That includes Topher Grace (but say what you want – I think Topher would have been better as Peter Parker than “Arthouse Tobey”…). According to Variety, Venom will become an anti-hero a la his ‘90’s mini-series, Lethal Protector. The mini-series had Eddie Brock moving to San Francisco where he winds up protecting a group of homeless people from criminals (what would they steal? Sorry…). This crappy mini-series was the basis for the second worse Spider-Man storyline to come out of the ‘90’s – The Symbiote Crisis; which was the creation of Carnage (not bad), Shriek, Toxin, Scream, Hybrid and other cheap villain clones trying to cash in on Venom’s popularity. While we won’t see Spider-Man in this movie, I do hope we’ll see more than Venom knocking some criminals around. This is where a Carnage origin would be cool and then have him appearing either Spider-Man 5 or 6 with the new Venom.
