Raimi Taps Robert Rodat To Write World of Warcraft Movie

WoW Cataclysm LogoIn a recent interview with MTV, Sam Raimi said that he had brought Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) aboard to write the screenplay for his upcoming World of Warcraft adaptation. I actually think that Raimi will do okay directing Warcraft; it has a fantasy factor that he seems to do better with than a movie like Spider-Man. The hiring of Rodat worries me though. Sure, he wrote a great WWII movie and wrote The Patriot, but where in those movies is there anything that indicates that he can do a “sword & sorcery” movie? The two movies that he’s most known for are both historical pieces and while both were very good, I don’t see where the connection to being able to write Warcraft comes in. Blizzard and Legendary Pictures are producing the movie with Warner Brothers co-financing and distributing. Raimi plans to being shooting the live-action Warcraft movie as soon as he’s done with Spider-Man 4 next summer.
