MGM’s Financial Problems Won’t Be A Problem For The Hobbit…

The Hobbit - BilboLast week, when MGM shareholders talked about letting the company simply fade away – everybody wondered about The Hobbit and James Bond franchises. I guess the shareholders have found a will to live. MGM only has a 50% stake in The Hobbit, the other half being held by Warner Bros. (who have absorbed New Line…). Warner Bros. seems to have agreed to cover the expenses of the production until MGM can get their financial woes straightened out (I imagine the deal states that MGM only has a certain amount of time to pay the WB back before the rights and all box office receipts revert to WB…). So all of you Tolkien fans have no need to worry.

You James Bond fans… start worrying. No word yet on the state of the Bonds franchise, though I bet Columbia or Sony itself will swoop in for the rights.

  • I’m glad too… especially now that Ian Mckellen and Hugo Weaving already signed to reprise their roles. I just wanna know who young Bilbo’s gonna be.
