Marvel can’t let DC have anything can they? DC does the Identity Crisis storyline and Marvel does the crappy knock-off called The Identity Disc. DC has Blackest Night going full swing and looking to be a hit with both critics and fans – cue Marvel’s X-Force/New Mutants: Necrosha. My impression of how this was pushed through at Marvel:
Joe Quesada: “Hey, if DC is raising the dead and getting sales, we’d better do something too! Who wants it? No. You two, Kyle and Yost. You guys aren’t doing anything big. You do it. No, I don’t care if it fits into your stories or not. We can’t let DC have another book in the Top Twenty! Finish up the Messiah War thing so we can get this in quick.”
I’m starting to lose a little respect for Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. The problem isn’t that they are bad writers; they’re a great team that has produced some really good stuff in the last few years. The problem is the management at Marvel is allowing them to get spread too thin between multiple comics and cartoon projects. And they could have very well have had this planned since issue #1 of X-Force, but it’s pretty suspect for it to be hitting the shelves midway through the Blackest Night storyline dontcha think?. And Joe? Please, just let your writers write and don’t worry about what other companies are doing too much…
