Ok, so I’m a little late to this party. Mostly because I have a pathological hate for the Buffy series, I’ve avoided most things Joss Whedon. But, after watching the complete Firefly on DVD – I was sold on anything he touched. Add to the fact that Neil Patrick Harris is an underrated comedy star and how could this be bad? Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog was phenomenal on every level. My only complaint is that it was too short. Harris stars as Dr. Horrible, a villain trying desperately to get accepted into the Evil League of Evil. Horrible has a video blog that he uses to pontificate his plans and feelings to the world. His only weaknesses seems to be his laundry buddy, Penny (Felicia Day) and his arch-nemesis, Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion). It is a musical that is done very well from the song placement to use to lyrics. Just based on her performance in this, I plan on watching Felicia Day in “The Guild” as well. I had a chance at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con to see this done live with the original cast, but the people I was with wanted to get food instead (blorks…). Dr. Horrible seems to quickly be approaching Rocky Horror status as it was again performed at this year’s Con (different actors though) with the audience singing along and many wearing costumes from the movie. The DVD is loaded with extras; the best being the singing commentary by the cast and crew. At another 40 minutes or so long, it was just as good and funny as the actual movie. If you love Joss Whedon, musicals or just want good, cheesy fun for about a hour, check out Dr. Horrible.
