Tobey Maguire may have been handed a little too much power by the contracts writers just to to get him back. After scripts by James Vanderbilt and David Lindsay-Abaire were rejected, Gary Ross (writer/director of Seabiscuit & Pleasantville…) was brought in to pen a fourth version of the movie. I honestly don’t want to see a Spider-Man movie written by this guy. It’ll be some arthouse crap that will make Maguire’s Shakespearian ego feel better about losing his indy cred and getting $50 million for the fourth and fifth installments of Spider-Man. Rami is planning on filming the movies back-to-back in a 6 month period. There’s been no official word on the villains yet, but the interwebs are buzzing about the Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, Black Cat and the Scorpion. Sony has already set a release date of May 6, 2011 and the only confirmed people from the last movie are Maguire and director Sam Rami. After the last movie, Marvel Studios should just buy the rights back, fire everybody and recast. Maguire is too tubby half the time and he has no chemistry with Kirsten Dunst – who is cute, but is no way beautiful enough to be MJ. Sam Rami was treading water with the first two films and apparently gave up with the third. Honestly, I think that Topher Grace would have been a better Peter Parker on all fronts. Sheesh, they might as well do the two movies about the Clone Saga…

I agree i think Topher Grace would make a better spiderman.
