This movie was finished some time ago. They reshot, rewrote, talked to Lucas, shot some more and then it went directly to DVD. It’s not because it couldn’t bring in the crowds, it just took too damn long and had too many cooks. Other than that – if you are a Star Wars fan and know where your local comic shop is: GO OUT AND BUY THIS MOVIE. Here’s a quick rundown of the cast: Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel (Tropic Thunder), Kristen Bell, Chris McDonald (Happy Gillmore), Seth Rogen, Danny Trejo, Ethan Suplee (from My Name is Earl as Harry Knowles), Billy Dee Williams, Jaime King, William Shatner, Carrie Fisher, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Chuck Borden and Ray Park. The geek references alone make it worthwhile and if you add that to the toilet humor and the more than decent story – it adds up to one of the funniest movies of the year. I actually like this more than Tropic Thunder… and I really liked Tropic Thunder. Here’s the story rundown: In 1998, four buddies with a shared love of all things Star Wars reunite for one final, hilarious odyssey. Their insane plan: a cross-country road trip to storm George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch and steal a copy of Episode I before it’s released so their dying friend can see it. With the police, a crew of angry Trekkies, and a crazy pimp hot on their trail, what could possibly go wrong? Cameo’s alone make this movie hilarious. If you’ve only seen the “prequels” (or Star Wars I, II, III…) – this is not your movie. But, if you can remember seeing the Millennium Falcon on the big screen – this movie was tailor-made for you. Buy. It. Now.
