Barry Ween: Boy Genius is nothing new to me. I have all of the single comic issues. Oni Press has just released the Big Book of Barry Ween: Boy Genius TPB which collects the complete run from creator Judd Winick. You might know Winick better from his run on Exiles, Green Arrow or the first season of MTV’s The Real World III. Winick also created The Adventures of Juniper Lee for Cartoon Network (another show that was cancelled too soon…). Barry Ween is a 10 year old boy who has an I.Q. of 350 and is the smartest being on the planet. He may be smart, but he’s got a mouth that would make a sailor blush. Think Dexter’s Lab if it was R-rated. I got this book in two weeks ago and have already read it four times through. And I’ve laughed out loud every single f-ing time. Barry’s sidekick is fellow 10 year old and porn addict, Jeramy Ramirez. While Jeramy is nowhere near as smart as Barry, he is the only one who knows Barry’s secret. Between covering up his failures and fixing the trouble Jeramy creates; tthe two also encounter aliens, U.S. G-Men and manage to travel through time and space without destroying the planet. I could rave on and on about this book, but I’ll just tell everyone over the age of 17 (it’s Rated M) to drop the $19.95 at their local comic shop ASAP. Like now. Shut down the computer for a while and read it. GO!
