X-Men Origins: Wolverine Review or What comic is this supposed to be based on…?

SPOILERS TO FOLLOW!!! I finally went to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I went into the theatre with an open mind, trying to forget the 30+ years of Wolverine/X-Men continuity I love so much. As a movie-goer who only knows Wolverine from the movies – I thought it was great. Liev Schreiber was phenomenal as Sabretooth and the chemistry between him and Hugh Jackman as brothers was more than believable. Will.I.Am nailed Wraith’s character and mannerisms. I even overlooked the fact that they mixed about 12 different storylines together in the first part of the movie (that’s a total of 50 by the end of the movie…). Honestly, the movie was good right up until he jumps out of the tank.

One frickin’ door hold back the ultimate weapon?!? Gambit shouldn’t even have been in the movie – he was just to appease the people who were ticked he wasn’t in the last X-Men movie (his appearance in THAT movie would’ve been at least partially believable!). Blob is no where near any of Wolverine or Weapon X’s storylines. C’mon people, this is what Hollywood does to comic movies. Ask Alan Moore! The scene that REALLY pushed me over the edge was when Professor X showed up with a Botox overdose. I’m guessing that Patrick Stewart came on at the last minute and they fit him in where they could. The CGI was so incredibly bad on that scene that I could have done better by myself. Did they run out of money in the effects budget?!? They had plenty of time; the movie was delayed for almost a year. It actually looks like they reused footage of the kids running through the halls in the prison to create the scene where they run towards the helicopter. The d@mn Wolverine video game has better CGI that that last scene! Before I forget, Emma (the White Queen) Frost is made of SOLID diamond. You know, kinda like Iceman, but sparkly. They made her look like “Bling-Girl” – purveyor of cell phone crap for d-bags.

deadpool_movie_01I will say that the box office speaks for itself. Of course studios want a big opening weekend; that’s where they make most of their money back. But, it’s the second week that let’s you know if you have a real hit. The people who went to see Wolverine aren’t exactly telling their friends to go. I’m hearing (and reading) a lot of viewers saying to wait for the DVD or an on-demand showing. As opposed to Star Trek that will do almost as much business as it did opening weekend.

Now that I’m done ranting, it’s movie news time! Fox has announced that there will be a Wolverine sequel that focuses on Logan’s journey’s in the Orient. They’ve also announced that Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool in a solo movie. First rumors out say that he will have the mask, he’ll still have the healing factor and possibly the teleportation ability and no adamantium or other powers. You know, they way he should’ve been in THIS movie…
