If you are even a casual comic reader or even a casual Star Wars fan, this book is for you. Great art, beautiful colors and a story that will make you look back at every bit of Star Wars continuity and say, “Oh, D@MN!”
Set 137 years after the First Battle of Yavin, the story revolves around the great-grandson of Luke Skywalker – Cade Skywalker. Trained as a Jedi and apprenticed to his father’s former padawan, Cade is orphaned when a new version of the Sith attack the Jedi Temple on Ossus. As his father, Kol and Cade’s master fight to protect the retreat of the younglings and padawans, Kol is killed and Cade’s master is mortally wounded. To save his master, Cade instinctively touches the dark side to heal his master. Still overcome with rage, Cade takes a snub-fighter to cover the jump to light speed and continue killing Sith. As the ship jumps to light speed, Cades ship explodes and he is thought dead.
Fast-forward 7 years and Cade is now a bounty hunter with his own ship and crew, having left behind the Jedi and the Force the day his father died. The Sith, led by Lord Krayt, have supplanted the Emperor and taken over the New Republic. Krayt has recreated the Sith under the Rule of One (many Sith Lords and Sith followers), rather the Rule of Two. Krayt is a powerful Sith Lord with ties to the Clone Wars. The writer has weaved just about every major era of the Star Wars mythos into the story of a lost Jedi that may be the REAL one who will bring balance to the Force. Able to use both light and dark sides, Cade isn’t pulled in either direction and chooses to walk the knife’s edge. Cade is drawn back in the machinations of the galaxy as his latest bounty turns out to be a Jedi in hiding.
This one has something for every Star Wars fan. The series, currently at issue #32, is focusing on the the fringe characters of the story after having brought the initial storyline to a close. The previous issues collected in trades, volumes 1- 5 from Dark Horse Comics.
