Okay, I’ll admit I’m looking forward to this movie because I’m an X-Men fanatic. Though, after seeing Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, I wish Marvel Studios was handling this one. It’s always cool to see your favorite heroes on the big screen, but non-comic book people (those tainted by the Hollywood execs…) tend to write for what they think will sell. I would have bought into that thinking 5 to 10 years ago, but Hollywood needs to realize that comic readers are more numerous & now include grown ups with money and kids of their own. We want to see a story that’s not completely amalgamated from a dozen different storylines, like X-Men Origins: Wolverine appears to be.

Hugh Jackman will still be a great onscreen Wolvie as always, Liev Schrieber will be a better and more articulate Sabretooth and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is brilliant. He is the one actor in Hollywood that can pull off the merc-with-the-mouth. However, I haven’t seen a trailer, picture, etc with him in the mask. Even after seeing Wolvie appearing in the past with mutants other than those from the Weapon X stories (Blob, Emma Frost, Beak (what tha #@%*?!?), etc.), the only thing I want to see is a mouthy Deadpool WITH THE MASK ON!!! We all know that Reynolds is pretty & can pull off a raunchy comedy (Waiting) as easy as a romantic comedy (Just Friends) – he will not be Deadpool without the mask on. I’ll even be okay if they are setting him up for a solo movie and at the end of this one he’s irreversibly disfigured and is forced to don the mask. But, unless I see Reynolds in a mask, he’s just Hannibal King from Blade Trinity.

 Again, I’m going to see this for the action more than the actual story, but I better d@mn well see Deadpool with a mask.
